Hal Brierley
Chairman, Chief Loyalty Architect
A pioneer in the development of customer loyalty programs, Hal Brierley founded Brierley+Partners in 1985 and has led the company through more than two decades of successful growth.
Hal began his career in direct marketing more than 25 years ago and continues to be one of the most innovative and respected strategic thinkers in the field. Graduating Harvard Business School in 1968, he co-founded and served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Epsilon Data Management, one of the nation's leading database marketing companies.
In 1980, Hal was retained as the only outside consultant to work on the design of American Airlines AAdvantage®, the first frequent flyer program. In 1982, he became Vice President of Sales and Advertising for Pan American World Airways, where he launched WorldPass®, Pan Am's frequent traveler program. In 1983, he was named Senior Vice President of Marketing for Continental Airlines.


Jim Sturm President, Chief Executive Officer Mr. Sturm joined Brierley in January, 2007. Since joining Brierley, Jim has been instrumental in establishing new client relationships across the spectrum of Brierley+Partners' CRM and Loyalty services, as well as expanding the company's service offerings; most notably, the LoyaltyWare technology solution. Prior to Brierley, Jim spent over 20 years with EDS, an industry leader providing a broad portfolio of Business Process Management and Technology solutions. In his last position at EDS, Jim was responsible for Client Service Excellence; providing innovative solutions to business issues for major clients as well as ensuring client satisfaction. Additionally, Jim was strategic in developing and leading EDS' client loyalty program. Earlier in Jim's tenure with EDS, he served as Vice President of Sales and Business Development. Mr. Sturm holds a degree in Business Administration, Finance, and Management Information Systems from State University of New York at Buffalo.


Ben Karr Executive Vice President, Chief Operations Officer
An acknowledged leader in the direct marketing field, Ben joined Brierley+Partners in 1990. His career experience includes six years as Senior Vice President, Marketing at Rapp Collins Worldwide and 12 years at Continental Airlines, where he held various senior marketing and advertising positions. In 1982, Ben supervised the development of the travel industry's first program to reward customers for their complete travel experience airline, hotel and car rental. Throughout his career, he has been a leader in the development and implementation of numerous customer loyalty initiatives in industries as diverse as health care, sports, travel, retail and cargo. Ben is a graduate of the University of Houston Business School.

Bill Swift Executive Vice President, Chief Technology Officer
Since January of 2001, Bill has been serving as Brierley+Partners' senior object technologist and systems architect, specializing in the design and development of complex distributed systems. Throughout his career, Bill has developed technology architecture solutions for a variety of different companies including Deutsche Bank, General Motors, Sprint and Sony. Having participated in the successful adoption of international technology standards, Bill is a contributing author of publications focused on distributed architecture and holds several software design patents. Bill holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Michigan.


Chuck Cheatham
Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer
One of Brierley+Partners' first employees, Chuck joined the company in 1986 and is responsible for the daily accounting functions and financial reporting. Prior to joining Brierley, Chuck was in the oil and gas industry and was the Vice President of Finance for two exploration and production companies: Crawford Energy and GNC Energy, as well as the Controller for Vickers Petroleum, a petroleum marketing and refining company. Chuck holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from the University of North Texas and is a Certified Public Accountant.


Amy Barnett Senior Vice President, Strategic Account Planning Amy has dedicated her career to direct, database and loyalty marketing. In her 16 years of client and agency experience, she's created, managed, and enhanced CRM programs for Procter & Gamble, Unilever, AT&T, Comcast, and EDS. At Brierley she is responsible for strategic account planning for the agency's clients, including American Eagle Outfitters and Bloomingdale's. Amy holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Clarkson University and a MBA from the University of Texas, Dallas.


Jill Goran
Senior Vice President, Group Creative Director
Jill joined Brierley+Partners in 1991 and has had creative responsibility for some of our company's largest accounts including Sony, MSN, Hilton and Hertz. A native of the "Big Apple", Jill worked at William Esty Advertising in New York on national print and television campaigns for companies including Colgate, Palmolive, American Home Products, Nabisco and Union Carbide. Jill moved to the West Coast to work at MPI, a subsidiary of United Airlines, and had creative responsibility for the Westin Hotels Premier program and the United Airlines Mileage Plus program. The recipient of numerous creative awards, including ECHOs, Caples, Pioneers, Lulus, Tempos and an Academy of American Poets Prize, Jill has also been featured in various industry publications for her breakthrough creative. In addition, Jill holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with high distinction in English from the University of Rochester.


Catherine Hallmark
Senior Vice President, Account Management
A Brierley+Partners employee since 1995, Catherine leads the client service teams who support all West Coast clients and has substantial experience in strategic development and tactical implementation of major Relationship Management programs including the highly successful Hilton HHonors program. Prior to joining Brierley+Partners, Catherine held both Client and Agency positions with a focus in direct marketing and publishing. As a Marketing Manager with Field Publications, Catherine managed marketing activities for the children's classroom newspaper, My Weekly Reader. Catherine holds an MBA in Marketing and a B.A. in Economics from the University of California at Irvine.

Jim Huppenthal
Senior Vice President, Creative Services
A key Brierley+Partners creative leader since 1987, Jim was one of the driving forces behind the design renaissance in direct marketing. After graduating from the American Academy of Art, Jim worked at Stone & Adler in Chicago and then Wunderman West in Los Angeles. Jim left Wunderman to help open the Brierley Los Angeles office where he currently oversees the art direction and design across all clients, and is responsible for the Production Art Studio and Art Resources departments. During his impressive career, Jim has gained a national reputation for his achievements. Many of those achievements have been showcased in several publications, including the book Direct Marketing Design. Jim is the recipient of numerous awards, including ECHOs, Caples, Pioneers, Tempos, AAF Best in the West, Telly and American Catalog Gold awards.

Laith Murad
Senior Vice President, General Manager, Los Angeles
Strategic. Knowledgeable. Committed. These are a few words that describe our Los Angeles General Manager. At Brierley in Dallas, Laith was responsible for the development and execution of client program strategies for clients including American Eagle Outfitters, Bloomingdale's, Nike, Sony and Westfield. He is currently leading the Brierley team focused on strategic customer communications and breakthrough creative. Laith briefly left our ranks in 2007 for a stint at Epsilon, where he was responsible for the CRM and Loyalty strategies for Eddie Bauer, Helzberg Diamonds and Midas. As a Director of Marketing and Sales Strategy for LSG Sky Chefs, he led development proposal/RFP response strategy and process, partnership management and negotiations. He spent six years at Neiman Marcus leading the InCircle program and partnership marketing. Laith holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, and completed his MBA at Southern Methodist University.


Robert Owen Senior Vice President, Technology Operations Robert joined Brierley+Partners in 1999 and has almost 17 years of application development and technology operations experience. During his time at Brierley+Partners Robert has developed, implemented, and supported CRM and loyalty programs for a wide range of clients. As the company's senior technology operations officer, he manages a large and diverse team of technology professionals based in three B+P offices.Robert has worked with a number of Fortune 500 clients both leading and developing complex technology solutions to support their marketing functions including JCPenney, Sony, Borders, United States Postal Service, Goldman Sachs, United Airlines, DynCorp, and Nokia. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems from University of Texas, Arlington and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Texas, Dallas.


Billy J. Payton Senior Vice President, Business Development / President - Retail Practice Billy, a veteran retailer and pioneer in retail loyalty programs, joined Brierley+Partners in 2000 to lead the firm's expanding retail practice. Prior to joining Brierley, he served as Vice President, Marketing and Customer Programs for Neiman Marcus and in this capacity promoted the unique and highly recognizable brand. During his 36-year career at Neiman Marcus, Billy was responsible for the development and implementation of the InCircle and NM Gold programs two programs that pioneered the concept of customer loyalty within the retail industry, and managed the Neiman Marcus customer database, as well as its credit card marketing efforts. As part of his marketing efforts at Neiman Marcus, Billy created the first electronic, prepaid gift card a card that today is widely used throughout the retail industry.
